Greetings to all. Suzanne and I are preparing for our great adventure in Bratislava. Over the coming months, we'll post all of our news, pictures, and other items here.
Please note that, although I will be a Fulbright scholar in Slovakia, my posts here will not represent in any way the opinions or positions of the U.S. Department of State, the Slovak Fulbright Commission, or anyone else except us.
Updated July 13:
Our plans are starting to solidify. We leave on August 10, landing in Sweden on the 11th, where we will take delivery of our new Volvo on the 12th. Very exciting!
On the 13th we start our trek to and through eastern France and northern Italy on our way to an August 29th arrival in Bratislava. This is our first opportunity to do Old World wine tasting! We have three days planned in Champagne (based in Epernay), three days in Bourgogne (based in Beaune, where we will visit the French winery of the Drouhin family, whose Oregon offspring we admire so much), and three days in Lyon. From there, it's a couple of days in Annecy to relax after some heavy-duty tourism, then across Italy with stops in Cremona, near Bergamo at the creamery responsible for some fabulous water buffalo cheese that we love (Casatica di Bufala), and in Padova.
It's a vacation of a lifetime, but of course it's only the beginning of our European adventure. Look for posts from the road starting in mid-August!
